I am from a small town in South Texas where I gained my appreciation for the great natural and historical richness of the state. I moved to the capital, Austin, to study bioinformatics as an undergraduate at St. Edward's University. I then left Texas for St. Louis, Missouri to continue studying computational biology at Saint Louis University as a master's student.
I highly value the humanities (especially history, literature, foreign language, music) and argue they are just as enriching to my scientific endeavors as are mathematics, computing sciences, or biological sciences.
